Robert Altman

Robert started in film with his own darkroom… but in the digital age he began shooting Music in NY- eventually for the NY Times and Associated Press. When working with the Times, he was given a chance to shoot Dance- and he never looked back. “As a photographer there is nothing more satisfying than capturing the work of others who’s primary goal is to create incredible geometry and line- dancers are kindred spirits to us photographers.” While initially shooting performances, he began to feel the need to have more creative input into the visuals in terms of form and light. That is why he began to reach out to dancers (some of whom he had the pleasure of capturing in performance) to collaborate creating photographs as equal partners in the resulting images. “Be it on location or in the studio, there is no better partner than a dancer.”
