Katherina Madriz began her studies of classical ballet at age 9 in “Ballet Juvenil Costarricense” (Costa Rican Youth Ballet), in which she was a member until December 2016. With it she was corps of ballet, soloist and principal of various ballets of the classical repertoire as well as BJC’s own choreographies. At national level, she has participated in productions such as The Nutcracker of the National Theater (2004-2008), Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, La Bayadera, MidNight Summer’s Dream, Beauty and the Beast, Le Corsaire, all under the direction of Pedro M. Boza; West Side Story musical produced by Luciérnaga Producciones; Alice in Wonderland (2016-2017) directed by Maria Amalia Pendones; among others. In 2001, at the 8th International Meeting of Ballet Academies of Havana Cuba, she was selected as the only foreigner to dance “La Fille Mar Gardee” with the National Ballet School of Cuba. In 2003, she obtained a scholarship for the Interlochen Center for the Arts summer camp in Michigan USA; where she was chosen to dance 3 pieces. She was also accepted at the University of Mercyhurst, Pennsylvania. She has danced in Cuba, Nicaragua, USA and Spain. In her artistic preparation we can mention teachers such as Annia Rosales, Pedro Boza, David Martínez, Loipa Araujo, Fernando Alonso, Suki Shoerer, Ángel Corella, Tauna Hunter, Pablo Savoye, Carmina Ocaña, Ashlee Dawson, Doug Caldwell, Jorge Félix Morejón , Maria Amalia Pendones, among others. Katherina has a Masters Degree in sports physiotherapy and works in her own clinic of physiotherapy and Pilates, “KT Fisioterapia.” She is also the creator, general director and producer of the Festival de Ballet San José since its inception in 2016. She also directs her own professional assemble, “Ensamble del Festival de Ballet San José” since 2017.
